Pregnancy

Weeks 33-34

My husbands birthday, a big proposal, and a new job, There was no lack of excitement these two weeks. It was great to have my sister in town, go on a couple hikes and spend some time outside with the weather turning. Due to all the reasons to celebrate I enjoyed dessert a couple too many times. We were also able to see the baby move my belly externally vs just feeling it.

My last week at work, the team threw me a diaper/wipe baby shower. We were in person so it was different from the virtual experience. I was overwhelmed by how many people were willing to come and support me becoming a mom by buying me items and giving me advice.  Especially since I was leaving their hospital in hopes to be a more present mom. The theme was “What will it Bee” and everyone guessed the gender. It was really sweet and we really didn’t have that many diapers. Just the week prior I was going over the things we had vs. what we needed with my sister in law. I have no idea what I was thinking, we had one 30pack of newborn diapers and I figured that would last us for a while. Cori (my sister in law) was like, ummm that will last less than a week. Then I thought about the newborn classes and reading. All of my resources have been telling me 6-8 dirty diapers a day as a measurement of adequate feedings. I just never actually put it together and thought about the math. I must have been thinking of diapers as underwear. Due to this shower, our closet is now stocked with diapers. I really love the idea of a diaper party.

Betsy and Mack (My sister and soon to be brother in law!) were in town and got engaged on

top of one of the hikes! It was so exciting. Joe and I go hiking often but had not been for a while. I was a little nervous that I would feel off balance, slip on a rock, or not be able to keep up. I had no issues at all, even though it was a little slippery. Mack had thought ahead and had Joe pack Champaign at the top of the mountain. Later that night we went out to eat at an outdoor rooftop and Mack had pre-ordered a non-alcoholic drink for me. Drinking is one of the things I thought would be challenging to give up during pregnancy but possibly due to COVID it was not even a thought, until moments like this, and Mack had already thought of how to include me.

Joe’s 33nd birthday happened to be the same exact day Baby B turned 33 weeks. How cool is that! I love doing everything with Joe. We all turned 33 together<3.

Weight: 162 lb. I was feeling really good and strong.

Symptoms: The GERD came and went randomly.

Acne -still a struggle and possibly getting worse.

Overall discomfort-I thought that my discomfort was just something I had to deal with after week 32, however it went away. All of a sudden I felt strong and barely pregnant again. Obviously, I had a large stomach but it was not something that was on my mind or I thought of in the background.

Workouts:  Between Biking, Hiking and walking I making sure I had at least 30 min of movement a day.

Food: I did not fall off the bandwagon, I jumped off it. With birthdays, showers, engagements, and new jobs to celebrate I ate more dessert this week than I probably have total in the past year. Betsy and Mack made a lamb curry that I re-heated at work, dang were those great reheated leftovers! Approaching the last month of pregnancy, I decided I was going to let loose and eat some unhealthy food. Heck I have been pretty good the whole pregnancy and my doc’s were saying I was in fantastic health. Week 34 I had cereal for breakfast, salad/ something healthy for lunch, and whatever Joe was eating for dinner. We had leftover cheesecake, cookies, brownies, chocolate cake, etc from the celebrations from the week prior so of course I had some of that too.

Doctors Visits: We had a virtual visit that was recommended because I was so healthy. Again, these visits are great! In addition to the typical questions, we discussed that from here on out I would be seen weekly, and that next time I would get a strep B culture (A but swab). If you are positive they administer an IV during labor to prevent the baby from getting it as it passes the canal. They also very quickly went over 1:5:5 – If I start having contractions we want to wait until I have had them 5-4 min apart lasting 5 min for an hour. Other reasons to come to the hospital included my water breaking, or bleeding.

Money Spent: We didn’t buy anything for the baby these two weeks. We were gifted a TON of diapers.

Sleep: I was sleeping well, but just get sick of laying on my side. I was still able to flip back and fourth pretty easily at this point. I did have to use the restroom 2+ times a night.

To Do List:

  • Get hospital bag packed
  • Practice car seat installation
  • Finalize the nursery – I know I have been trying to do this forever but it just never seems ‘Done’.

How do you feel about virtual visits? Would you rather be physically examined? What was the hardest thing for you to give up during pregnancy? Was there ever a moment in your pregnancy that you just wanted to give up eating healthy? Did you have a diaper party?
